This clinic will provide techniques and strategies for band and orchestra directors to assist in developing their students rhythmic sensitivity within the large instrumental ensemble. Also addressed will be techniques to aid the conductor in his/her own rhythmic accuracy. Strategies for identifying and fixing the most common rhythmic errors will be discussed and modeled. To conclude, recommended literature that assists in teaching rhythmic sensitivity will be discussed.
Robert J. Ambrose, Stuart W. Gerber
- Biographical Information
Robert J. Ambrose is director of bands and associate director of the School of Music at Georgia State University in Atlanta. He has conducted professionally across the US as well as in Australia, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong and Singapore. He is founder and conductor of the Atlanta Chamber Winds and Bent Frequency Contemporary Music Ensemble and received the Doctor of Music degree in conducting from Northwestern University. Lauded as having “consummate virtuosity” by The New York Times, Stuart Gerber has performed extensively on national and international stages. He has worked with such noted composers as Karlheinz Stockhausen and Steve Reich and has recorded for Mode, Telarc, Capstone and Albany Records. He is Associate Professor of Music at Georgia State University, co-artistic director of Bent Frequency, and a member of the acclaimed piano-percussion duo Ensemble.
