Creating the Successful Band or Orchestra Rehearsal

Clinic Synopsis:

Successful rehearsals are one of the most important aspects of any performing ensemble. A meticulous plan provides a roadmap to help ensure success in all areas of the rehearsal process. The clinicians will discuss items to consider when developing goals and plans for your daily rehearsals.

Timothy Rhea - Biographical Information

Dr. Timothy Rhea is Director of Bands and Music Activities at Texas A&M University. As Director of Bands, he serves as administrative head of the university band program (1000 students), serves as conductor of the University Wind Symphony, and is the director of the nationally famous “Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band.” He also oversees the choral, orchestral, and jazz programs. Dr. Rhea has conducted the Texas A&M University Wind Symphony for conventions of the Texas Music Educators Association, the American Bandmasters Association, the Midwest International Band & Orchestra Clinic, the Western International Band Clinic and the College Band Directors National Association. Additional concerts have included Carnegie Hall, the Meyerson Symphony Center, and five European tours. Maintaining an internationally active schedule as conductor, clinician, and adjudicator, Dr. Rhea currently serves as Vice President of The American Bandmasters Association and on the Board of Directors of The John Philip Sousa Foundation.

Paul Sikes - Biographical Information

Paul Sikes serves as the orchestra director and associate director of bands at Texas A&M University. In this position, Dr. Sikes conducts both the Texas A&M University Orchestra and the University Symphonic Band. Having taught at the middle school, high school and university levels, Dr. Sikes has worked with a range of music students from beginners through college students. As a public school music teacher, he taught in the Lubbock, Midland and Katy Independent School Districts in Texas. His performing groups consistently received the highest ratings at festivals and contests and always grew in both size and quality. At the university level, Dr. Sikes has directed ensembles and taught music students at Baylor University and the University of Houston in addition to Texas A&M.
