In collaboration with the North Texas Wind Symphony, conducted by Eugene Migliaro Corporon, GRAMMY® Award Winning composer Michael Daugherty will discuss his creative process, musical thoughts and compositional inspirations. Four recent Daugherty band works, suitable for performance by high school, college, university and community bands will be explored: On the Air (2012), Vulcan (2014), Winter Dreams (2015) and Rio Grande (2015). The clinic will be of interest to composers, conductors, young musicians and the general public.

Over the last 25 years, GRAMMY® Award Winning composer Michael Daugherty has composed many of the most respected and performed works for the concert stage, such as Niagara Falls, Bells for Stokowski and Raise the Roof for band and Metropolis Symphony for orchestra. Born in 1954 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Michael Daugherty is the son of a dance-band drummer and the oldest of five brothers, all professional musicians. As Professor of Composition at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre and Dance, Daugherty is a mentor to many of today's most talented young composers. In 2011, the Nashville Symphony’s Naxos recording of Daugherty’s Metropolis Symphony and Deus ex Machina was honored with three GRAMMY® Awards, including “Best Classical Contemporary Composition”.
