Helping band students through the intermediate years requires us to continue to build their basic skill, develop musicianship, and keep them active and involved. Dr. Menghini will address and answer questions vital to the growth and development of mid-level bands, including: what defines success and motivation for students in these formative years; building a program by improving student musicianship through the overall experience; and considering specific decisions mid-level directors face.

Charles T. Menghini is President, Professor of Music, and Director of Bands at VanderCook College of Music in Chicago. Prior to coming to VanderCook in 1994 Menghini had 18 years as a high school band director and district band coordinator in Missouri and Kansas. Since coming to VanderCook, Menghini has worked hard to advance music teacher education. He has conducted numerous all-state, region and area honor bands, and has presented clinics on various aspects of teaching music from coast to coast as well as internationally. In addition to his duties at VanderCook, Menghini is a co-author of the Essential Elements Band Method.
Menghini is a contributing author to many music magazines, is co-author of the Essential Elements Band Method and serves as an educational member of the Music Achievement Council of the NAMM Foundation.
