Guiding Students to Intonation Independence

Clinic Synopsis:

Schayot will show video of rehearsals and sectionals with the L.V. Berkner High School (Richardson, TX) marching and concert bands to demonstrate the integration of the Yamaha Harmony Director, Korg TM-50 individual tuner, and the Tonal Energy app for iPad. This integration encourages independent chord analysis and the implementation of the tuning process. These technologies will be demonstrated live for attendees.

Jason Schayot - Biographical Information

Jason Schayot is Fine Arts Coordinator and Director of Bands at L.V. Berkner High School in the Richardson ISD where his responsibilities include serving as the conductor of Symphonic Band I, Jazz Band I and the pit orchestra for the BHS Fine Arts Musical, as well as coordinating the marching band and co-conducting the BHS Symphony Orchestra. He is currently in his 19th year of teaching. Before coming to Richardson in 2011, Mr. Schayot served as Director of Bands at Georgetown High School. Under his leadership, Georgetown received UIL Sweepstakes awards each year and advanced to the Area level in TMEA Honor Band competition. In addition to his secondary work, Mr. Schayot also worked at the middle school level in Georgetown as Head Band Director at Forbes Middle School and Associate Band Director at Benold Middle School. Before coming to Georgetown he was the Band Director at Giddings Middle School in Giddings, Texas, for three years. Mr. Schayot holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Southwestern University. He is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, the Texas Bandmasters Association, Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society and Texas Music Adjudicator's Association. His article “Guiding Students to Intonation Independence” was published in the December 2014 Texas Bandmasters Association Magazine “Bandmasters Review”.
