Changing Classroom Management Struggles Into Successful Results

Clinic Synopsis:

A plethora of data and research reveals that frustration with classroom management is one of the top reasons why teachers consider choosing a different professional pathway. This clinic session shares cornerstone concepts that lead to success, starting with effective planning and preparation strategies. Beyond the planning process, additional classroom management procedures are shared that turns potential discipline problems into positive and productive musical environments.

Jon Gomez - Biographical Information

Jon Gomez is a National Educational Consultant who serves as a Clinician for the Conn-Selmer Division of Education and Music Celebrations International (MCI), providing services as an educator, guest conductor, clinician, session presenter, and adjudicator. Jon also serves as one of the conductors for the East Valley Youth Symphony in Phoenix, Arizona. Gomez received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (1987) and Master’s degree in Education Administration (1993) from Arizona State University. He served as Director of Bands and Department Chair for the Performing Arts at Dobson High School in Mesa, Arizona (2000-2016). He also served as Director of Bands at Coronado High School and as District Team Leader for Bands in the Scottsdale Unified School District (1988-2000). Jon’s programs have earned numerous accolades and have presented notable performances, including: the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, China, four invitations to the Music For All National Concert Band Festival, Carnegie Hall, and five performances at the Arizona Music Educators Conference. He has also performed with the Tempe Symphonic Wind Ensemble (community band) at The Midwest Clinic in 1995. Jon has written a five-part article series for CSI Connect (2017) entitled, The Cornerstones of Successful Teaching”. As Co-Founder of Synergy Leadership Endeavors, he helped create the video & CD-ROM entitled, “Leadership Success” published by GIA Publications (2004). Gomez serves on: The Midwest Clinic Advisory Committee and on staff with the Summer Marching Academy. In past years, he served on the Arizona Band and Orchestra Directors Association Board and the Country Music Association Music Teacher of Excellence Selection Committee. Jon is a Charter Member of the Kappa Zeta Chapter of Phi Beta Mu (Honorary Band Masters Fraternity). He is also the Recipient of the Arizona State University School of Music Alumni Award and the AMEA O.M. Hartsell Excellence in Teaching Music Award.
