David Pope - Biographical Information

David Pope serves an Associate Professor of Music Education and Chair of Professional Studies at Baldwin Wallace University’s Conservatory of Music. In addition, he is also a senior conductor of the Baldwin Wallace University String Orchestra Camp and serves as a string clinician for Alfred Music. As an active adjudicator and clinician, he has conducted numerous all-state orchestras, regional honor orchestras, and served as a guest clinician for orchestra programs and university-level summer camps across the United States. Prior to Baldwin Wallace, Dr. Pope taught middle and high orchestra in Tennessee, Florida, and Ohio. He also conducted the Camerata Orchestra at Case Western Reserve University, taught string pedagogy courses at the VanderCook College of Music, and served as a conductor for the Sarasota (FL) and Northern Ohio Youth Orchestra programs. Dr. Pope received his bachelor's degree and Ph.D. in music education from Florida State University and master's degree from the University of South Carolina. Dr. Pope has presented string pedagogy clinics and his research at state, regional, national, and international conferences. His research has also been published in the Journal of Research in Music Education, Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education, String Research Journal, Research Perspectives in Music Education, Missouri Journal of Research in Music Education, Music Educators Journal, American String Teacher, and the Florida Music Director.  Dr. Pope currently serves on the review committees for Update: Applications of Research in Music Education, String Research Journal, and Research Perspectives in Music Education. He also currently volunteers as the American String Teachers Association’s national conference chair. He previously received the Distinguished Music Educator Award from the Yale Symposium for Music in Schools (2015) and was the recipient of the Outstanding Young Music Educator Award for the state of Tennessee (2009). Dr. Pope was also the recipient of the 2020 Emerging String Research Award from the American String Teacher Association. He is a member of the National Association for Music Education and the American String Teachers Association.
