The Stiles Middle School Honors Band is an ability-based ensemble comprised of 7th and 8th graders. All bands at Stiles meet everyday for 47 minutes plus a once per week outside of school sectional. 56% of our current ensemble was completely virtual last school year.

Darcy Vogt Williams is the head band director at Stiles Middle School in Leander, TX. Born to parents who met in their beginner trombone class, Darcy is 100% a product of the Texas music system. Her own musical education began in her father’s band hall in Harper, Texas where she spent her afternoons learning to play any instrument she could find in the storage closet while waiting to go home after school. In middle school and high school she studied flute with Mr. Paige Brooke, retired flautist with the New York Philharmonic. Darcy received her Bachelor of Music Education in 2004 from West Texas A&M University. Darcy is in her 18th year of teaching. Her bands have performed at The Midwest Clinic in Chicago, the Western International Band Clinic in Seattle, and are regularly state finalists in the TMEA Honor Band contest. In addition to teaching, Darcy travels across the United States as a clinician both for students and music educators. Before Covid she assisted in bringing a traditional American band experience overseas, serving as the inaugural Artistic Director of Brass Off 2019 – Music Generation in Waterford, Ireland. She is the author of two books about teaching band (Teaching Rhythm Logically and Pacing for Success: Beginner Band) and creator of the music education podcast “After Sectionals”. Darcy is married to John Vogt, and together they have a future band member – their daughter Caroline (who currently vacillates between flute and trombone… mom thinks she might be a trumpet) – and 3 spoiled fur babies, Lucy, Jack and Chloe.
