Performer Bio Synopsis

The Klein High School Orchestra Program has a long-standing rich tradition of excellence. Klein orchestras have enjoyed the success of consistent UIL Sweepstakes awards, first division ratings and “best in class” awards at festivals across the country. The Chamber and Symphony orchestras at Klein High have consistently ranked as finalists each year in the prestigious TMEA Honor Orchestra Competition, in both the string and full orchestra divisions. They have been named Grand Champions twice at Festival Disney in Orlando, Florida. The Klein High School Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra have been named national winners in the Mark of Excellence Competition, Grand Champions of the National Orchestra Cup Competition held in New York City, Grand Champions of the ASTA National Orchestra Festival and national winner of The American Prize. In 2020, the Klein Chamber Orchestra was invited to perform at the 75th Annual Midwest Clinic held in Chicago.

Conductor's Bio

Creston Herron is currently the Director of Fine Arts at Klein ISD in Klein, TX and conductor of the Campanile Orchestra at Rice University, Shepherd School of Music. Prior to this position he served as the Director of Orchestras and Fine Arts Department Chair at Klein High School, and the Director of Orchestras at YES Prep Public Schools (Houston, TX). His groups have enjoyed the success of consistent UIL Sweepstakes awards, first division ratings and “best in class” awards at festivals across the country. Under his direction, the Klein Chamber Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra have been recognized as the TMEA String Honor Orchestra, national winners of the Mark of Excellence Competition, Grand Champions of the coveted Orchestra Cup at the National Orchestra Cup Finals held in New York City, Grand Champions of the ASTA National Orchestra Festival, and national winners of The American Prize. Recently, the Klein Chamber Orchestra was invited to perform at the 75th Midwest Clinic which will be held in December 2021. Mr. Herron is a graduate of the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas, where he received his bachelor degree, Rice University, Shepherd School of Music in Houston, TX, where he received his master degree on scholarship as a Provost Fellow and a Brown Scholar, and recently received a master degree in school leadership from Sam Houston State University. During the summer seasons, he serves on the AFA Summer Conservatory faculty as a faculty artist. As a violinist, he has performed with various orchestras, and organizations around the world. His orchestral experience includes performances with Trans-Siberian Orchestra, CCM Spoleto festival in Italy, Pasadena Philharmonic, Galveston Symphony, concertmaster of the Eutiner Festspiele Opera in Eutin, Germany, and Houston Latin Philharmonic. As a conductor, he has participated in master classes with Dr. Clif Evans, Gary Lewis, Larry Livingston, Larry Rachleff and Don Schleicher. Mr. Herron was recognized in 2017 as the Teacher of the Year at Klein High School and was awarded the 2018 Marjorie Keller Outstanding Young Teacher of the Year Award by the State Board of the Texas Chapter of The American String Teacher’s Association. The Houston Symphony awarded Mr. Herron with the Spec’s Charitable Award for Excellence in Music Education. He is a proud member of the Texas Music Educators Association, American String Teachers Association, Texas Music Adjudicators Association and the Texas Orchestra Directors Association. In addition to teaching and performing, Mr. Herron is an active clinician and adjudicator, giving numerous professional development workshops and clinics with many orchestras and school districts across the state as well as conducting all-region orchestras, all-state orchestras, judging UIL competitions and solo and ensembles contests. Mr. Herron currently lives in Tomball, TX with his wife Dawn and two children.
