Clinic Synopsis: Podcasting is an excellent new technology to easily distribute audio and video to students, parents and community members via the internet. Share important news, lectures, demonstrations, interviews, and student work! You will learn what podcasting is, how it can help your program, and how you can easily get started.

What is the target audience for this clinic? K-12, College, Performers - Attend if you are interested in recording audio and/or video to distribute on the internet so that it can be easily downloaded by your audience.

What will the audience take away from this clinic? You will have a better understanding of the technology involved in podcasting, the equipment you need to get started, the steps to creating your own podcast, and how it can impact your teaching and improve communication with parents, students, and the community. You will be surprised how easy and fun it can be!

What is included in the handout? The handout will include a glossary of terms, a list of necessary equipment, a step-by-step "how to", and additional resources. I will also create a website which will contain all of the information presented, sample podcasts, and other helpful links.

Is there anything else you would like attendees to know about this clinic? Come and find out what a great tool podcasting can be to improve your teaching and communication! Your audience can listen/watch your podcast on their computers or mp3 player. Bringing technology into your teaching will help grasp the attention of today's students.

Biographical Information: Mr. Charles Laux, Jr. holds degrees in music education from Ohio University and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Mr. Laux started his career spending seven years as a middle school orchestra director in the Clark County School District (Las Vegas, NV). From 2003 until 2007, Mr. Laux taught high school orchestra in the Orange County (Florida) Public Schools where he served as director of orchestras at Cypress Creek High School and Winter Park High School. Under his direction, the Winter Park High School Philharmonic Orchestra presented a concert at the 60th annual Midwest Clinic. Mr. Laux has also taught for several colleges including the Community College of Southern Nevada and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Currently Mr. Laux is a graduate teaching assistant at The Ohio State University where he is pursuing a Ph.D. in music education under the guidance of Dr. Robert Gillespie. He also teaches privately, performs on the violin and viola, and is in demand as an orchestra conductor, clinician and adjudicator.
Mr. Laux has presented educational sessions at several FMEA and ASTA conferences. He is a member of MENC, OMEA, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. His leadership roles include serving as President of the Florida and Nevada chapters of ASTA.
