2011 Brings Change to The Midwest Clinic Board of Directors

by Kathleen Andersen, Communications Coordinator, The Midwest Clinic

We are pleased to welcome José Antonio Diaz to The Midwest Clinic Board of Directors, and to announce that long-term member Denny Senseney has been elected Treasurer. Diaz and Senseney bring great musical knowledge to their roles, and strong commitments to music education and to the industry serving music educators.

Diaz is the Founder and Artistic Director of Diaz Music Institute and the Director of the MacArthur High School Jazz Ensemble in Houston, Texas. He has more than two decades of experience as a jazz educator, and ensembles under his direction have performed at The Midwest Clinic six times. The MacArthur High School Jazz Ensemble has performed with artists including Wynton Marsalis, Jon Faddis, Eddie Palmieri, Poncho Sanchez, Dave Valentin, and Arturo Sandoval. Diaz has received many honors for his work and currently serves as Secretary for Jazz Education Network (JEN). He is an active author, composer, arranger, and clinician.

Senseney spent the first nine years of his career teaching instrumental music in the public school system and later started a successful school music business in Wichita, Kansas. A member of The Midwest Clinic Board of Directors since 1999, he has also served as President of the Retail Print Music Dealers Association and the National Association of School Music Dealers and on the Boards of Directors for NAMM and VanderCook Colllege.

Throughout the year, all the members of The Midwest Clinic Board of Directors volunteer their expertise, time, and energy to the music education community as they steer and plan our annual conference.
