The Woman Band Director: It's Complicated - What Everyone Should Know

Clinic Synopsis:

Women band directors aspire to bring the joy they experienced as band members to their students. During their careers, women may face trying moments and barriers wondering, “is this an issue of gender?” The presentation explores the differences between female and male band directors and what female directors can do to be successful in a male-dominated profession. Material presented is based on research. Attendees will walk away with a deeper understanding of this phenomenon and ways to thrive.

Jeri Webb - Biographical Information

Jeri Webb taught High School and Middle School Band and Orchestra for 34 years in Southern California. In 2019, she received the California Music Educators Association's highest honor - CMEA Hall of Fame. In 2017, she received the CMEA Band Educator of the Year Award. She continues to serve as an active clinician and adjudicator. She is currently enrolled at Arizona State University as a PhD Music Education student and is serving on the board of SCSBOA (Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association) as VP Medals and Awards. Jeri is a founding member of the National Alliance for Music in Vulnerable Communities and holds the position of Assistant Director of the San Diego Street Choir.
