Larry Clark
- Biographical Information
Music by Larry Clark is some of the most popular and most performed by concert bands and string orchestras of all ability levels. Larry is equally adept at writing music for beginners as he is for high school and colleges. His music is tuneful, contains a fresh harmonic perspective, is well-scored and stretches the musicianship of the performers. His pieces have been performed internationally and appear on numerous contest/festival performance required music lists. Larry is also the founder and President of Excelcia Music Publishing, which includes Wingert-Jones Publications, Kendor Music Publishing and RBC Publications. His compositions and background as a middle school and university band director at Syracuse University, combined with his composing, have placed Larry at the forefront of music education. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Music Education from Florida State University and Masters Degrees in Conducting and Composition from James Madison University in Virginia.
Mike Fansler - Biographical Information
Mike Fansler is Professor of Music and Director of Bands at Western Illinois University, where he provides direction and leadership for its comprehensive band program.
Dr. Fansler has accepted invitations for performances, seminars, and workshops on five continents. As a champion of new music he has commissioned over 30 compositions for bands and mixed chamber groups. His frequent collaborations with the WIU applied studio faculty has produced commissions, premiere recordings and performances including James Stephenson’s The Devil’s Tale, a sequel to Stravinsky’s L’Histoire du Soldat (Ravello Records) and Octet, also a Stravinsky sequel (Klavier Records).
The WIU Wind Ensemble recently released The River of Time (Navona Records) featuring David Maslanka’s O Earth, O Stars and Symphony No. 10, both being co-commissioned by WIU. Critics write: “An extremely timeless listen; this is a highly meticulous outing executed sublimely and will have the listener hanging on every thoughtful note.” –Take Effect; “Mike Fansler seems to have a knack for shaping lines and creating shimmering, transparent textures.” –James V. Dr. Fansler’s professional memberships include the prestigious American Bandmasters Association (2012), Illinois Music Education Association, Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters Fraternity, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
