Performer Bio Synopsis

The HMS Jazz Ensemble is part of a comprehensive jazz program which consists of two big bands and one combo. The Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo have been recognized internationally. In 2015, the Jazz Ensemble received the DownBeat Magazine Junior High Outstanding Performance award. In 2016, the Jazz Combo received the Outstanding Performance award. The Jazz Ensemble consistently receives Division 1 ratings and high rankings at each jazz festival they attend. In 2015, the Jazz Ensemble performed at the Illinois Music Education Conference in Peoria, Illinois.

Conductor's Bio

Bryan Itzkowitz started his work at Holmes Middle School in the Fall of 2005. Mr. Itzkowitz currently directs the Symphonic Band, the Jazz Ensemble, and the Jazz Combo, as well as the Fifth Grade Beginning Band students from Whitman, Twain, and Frost Elementary Schools. Mr. Itzkowitz received his Bachelors in Music Education from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in the Spring of 2005. While at Illinois, Mr. Itzkowitz studied saxophone with Professor Debra Richtmeyer and Ron Bridgewater. Mr. Itzkowitz received his Masters in Educational Leadership from Concordia University River-Forest in the Spring of 2007. Currently, Mr. Itzkowitz performs in a local big band in the Chicago suburbs.
