Performer Bio Synopsis

The Huron Symphony Orchestra has a rich history of musical excellence and is honored to perform at the Midwest Clinic for the fourth time in the school's nearly 50 year history. In January of 2016, the Symphony Orchestra collaborated with Huron Symphony Band for a special joint performance at the Michigan Music Conference. In 2015, the Symphony and Chamber Orchestras were invited for an eleven-day, five-concert hall tour in China, beginning in Beijing and ending in Shanghai featuring performances in the Shanghai Oriental Arts Center, Xuzhou Concert Hall and the China National Library Concert Hall. In 2013, the Symphony and Chamber Orchestras were invited to play at Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center as part of the National School Orchestra Championships Festival performing Hindemith’s Symphonic Metamorphosis and Copland’s Appalachian Spring. Later that fall, the Orchestra traveled to Valparaiso (IN) to participate in the Great Lakes Invitational Music Festival. In 2012, the Symphony Orchestra was invited to premiere a multi-disciplinary piece composed for orchestra, choir, theater, and dance, commissioned for the 50th Anniversary of the Michigan Youth Arts Festival. In 2011, Huron was selected to perform for the opening concert of the Michigan Music Conference in Grand Rapids, MI, the first high school orchestra to be given this honor. In 2010, the Symphony Orchestra was honored at the Chicago Masters of Music Festival in Symphony Hall by being recognized as the most outstanding orchestra at the festival. Over the years, the Huron Symphony Orchestra has performed seven times at the Michigan Music Conference and three times at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago, IL. The Huron Orchestra Program has a strong relationship with both the University Musical Society and University of Michigan School of Music and has recently worked with many guest artists and conductors including: Apollo’s Fire, Martha Graham Ballet Company, Lincoln Trio, Elias String Quartet, Kenneth Kiesler, Michael Haithcock, Courtney Snyer, Christopher Lees, Larry Dittmar, Joshua Gersen and Michael Adelson. The Huron Orchestra Program is comprised of three curricular ensembles: the Philharmonia, Concert, and Symphony Orchestras as well as an extra-curricular ensemble, the Huron Chamber Orchestra. In addition to the approximately 180 string students in the program, the Concert, Symphony and Chamber Orchestras are augmented with wind, brass and percussion students from our award-winning Band Program. Huron Orchestra students are also very active and earn top ratings in the District and State Solo and Ensemble Festivals as well as MSBOA Band and Orchestra Festivals, and frequently participate in the Michigan Youth Arts Festival and All-State Orchestras. Each August, students from the entire orchestra program travel to Interlochen (MI) for a weeklong orchestra camp including large group and chamber music rehearsals, sectionals, group lessons, music electives and lotsof camp fun!
