Performer Bio Synopsis

Tamagawa Academy was founded in 1929 by the educational reformist and publisher Kuniyoshi Obara. There he espoused “Zenjin”, or “whole person” liberal arts education, beginning with 111 students and 18 faculty. Today the Academy has more than 10,000 students taking from kindergarten to masters level studies on the 150-acre campus, through co-curricular programs utilizing varied effective methodologies. Music education has been a key pursuit from the Academy’s beginning, and the alma mater is sung daily at school. The Tamagawa Academy Lower Division Wind Orchestra has attended the All Japan Band Competition National Finals three times since 2001. The Wind Orchestra has performed at the International Conference of the Pacific Basin Consortium in Brisbane, Australia and has present concerts throughout that country. After incorporating a combined elementary, junior and senior high school system, the band program was split into a 5th through 9th grade section and an upper level division. In 2010, the younger band division again attended the All Japan Band Competition National Finals, earning a gold rating.
