Performer Bio Synopsis

Recently recognized by the New York Times as “..one of the most well regarded jazz programs in the country.”, our all undergraduate jazz studies area is proud to have received some of the highest awards available to educational institutions including the Down Best Award for “Large Jazz Ensemble” seven times, most recently in 2016, and two Grammy nominations from our 21 recorded CD’s. The chemistry of an all undergraduate jazz program in the backyard of the Minneapolis-St. Paul music scene has enabled graduates to enjoy the fruits in the top of their fields. UW-Eau Claire alumni are playing Broadway shows in New York City and on national tours, traveling with national artists, composing and performing for Lucasfilm and television, performing in major symphony orchestras, teaching in colleges, high schools and middle schools across the country,as well as leading ensembles that perform at our nation’s top jazz venues in New York and Los Angeles such as Dizzy’s Coca Cola and the Hollywood Bowl. At UW-Eau Claire, entrepreneurship is valued at the highest priority to properly prepare students for our industry. Therefore, numerous opportunities exist to teach students these values including the existence of a non-profit community/university partnership called Eau Claire Jazz Incorporated. As well as becoming more familiar with the CEO responsibilities of being a band director, students engaging in these opportunities have received management positions as educational, marketing and operational directors at organizations including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, St. Louis Symphony, Hawaii Symphony, Blue Note Jazz Club and Fox Cities Performing Arts Center.
