Performer Bio Synopsis

The Science Hill High School Percussion Ensemble consists of all percussionists grades 9-12 at Science Hill High School. Begun in 2003, the ensemble has since hosted a regional Day of Percussion, the inaugural East Tennessee Percussion Festival, is a two time winner of The Percussive Arts Society’s International Percussion Ensemble Competition for PASIC 2013 and 2016, has been a first place winner of the Black Swamp Percussion Ensemble Showcase, and has performed at The Midwest Clinic in 2018. Students from the SHHS Percussion Ensemble have garnered honors such as winning the Tennessee Statewide Solo Percussion Competition in Marimba, Rudimental Snare, and Concert Snare, as well as participating in DCI Top-12 Drum Corps, Tennessee Governor’s School for the Arts, regional honor bands and the Tennessee All-State Band. The Science Hill Percussion Ensemble is proud to use products from Innovative Percussion, Pearl/Adams, and Black Swamp Percussion.

Conductor's Bio

Dan McGuire serves as Director of Percussion for Johnson City Schools. His responsibilities include the coordination of the Hilltopper Marching Band, Marching Drumline, and all percussion classes grades 6-12. Mr. McGuire holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and a Master’s Degree in Education from East Tennessee State University. During his tenure, the Science Hill Percussion Ensemble has garnered awards such as winning the Black Swamp Percussion Ensemble Showcase, winning The Percussive Arts Society’s International Percussion Ensemble Competition and performing at PASIC 2013 and 2016, as well as performing at The Midwest Clinic in 2018. Mr. McGuire’s students have garnered honors such as winning the Tennessee Statewide Solo Percussion Competition for Marimba, Rudimental Snare Drum and Concert Snare Drum, as well as participating in DCI Top-12 Drum Corps, Tennessee Governor’s School for the Arts, regional honor bands and the Tennessee All-State Band. As a clinician, Mr. McGuire has appeared at several universities in the southeastern United States, as well as the Tennessee All-State East Honor Band Clinic. His educational articles have appeared in Percussive Notes, as well as the Black Swamp Sound Solution Project. Active within the Percussive Arts Society (PAS), McGuire currently serves as Vice-President for the Tennessee Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society. Mr. McGuire's professional affiliations include the Percussive Arts Society, Tennessee Music Educators Association, East Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association, and the National Association for Music Education, and he is a proud endorser/clinician for Innovative Percussion, Pearl-Adams Corporation, and Black Swamp Percussion. Mr. McGuire currently resides in Johnson City, TN with his wonderfully supportive wife Elisa and their daughters Madelyn and Claire.
