Ligon Magnet Middle School Jazz Ensemble

  • Ligon GT Magnet Middle School is one of Wake County's Gifted and Talented as well as Academically Gifted Magnet Schools. Geographically students come from the North and East sections of Wake County as well as the local neighborhood. Our school offers over 100 electives with an emphasis on Arts. Our school motto is Academics + Arts = Achievement. Our music curriculum allows students the opportunity to sing or play in ensembles from beginning to advanced including 3 choirs, 2 piano classes, 3 string orchestras, a guitar class, 4 concert bands, and 1 jazz band. Our Jazz Band is a yearlong auditioned ensemble that meets on a daily basis during the school day. Ligon's jazz program often encourages students to pursue performing in our community ensembles like Triangle Youth Jazz which is making its 4th appearance at Essentially Ellington in New York this year. Our Orchestra and Band programs have both performed at the North Carolina State Music Convention with our Jazz Band performing this year. We are fortunte to have a parent boosters organization that supports us with fundraising where we have been able to bring in clinicians, commission new works as well as take trips to Chicago, Disney, NYC, and Atlanta.
