Performer Bio Synopsis
Carrie Smith formed the CS Honor Clarinet Choir in January of 2020 for her elite students to experience, rehearse, and perform chamber music. Carrie feels that chamber music is a cornerstone of good musicianship and builds a skill set that is invaluable for young musicians to develop. Honing listening and ear training skills is paramount to musical success and these practices can only enhance solo and small and large ensemble playing.
The CS Honor Clarinet Choir is comprised of students from Grand Oaks High School, Oak Ridge High School, and The Woodlands College Park High School in the Conroe Independent School District. Members range in age from freshmen to seniors. These talented and dedicated students commit time outside of school and other ensembles to be part of this group.
A special thank you to Michael Flake, Jerriald Dillard, Jeff Gorring, and Amanda Pritchard for their encouragement and support of this ensemble. Their outstanding teaching, leadership, and dedication to their programs make ensembles like this possible.

Conductor's Bio
Carrie Smith has been performing, teaching privately, and presenting master classes in north Houston for twenty-seven years. She currently maintains a studio of sixty students that range from beginners to college-level players. Her students experience a high degree of success and have consistently earned placements in Region and All-State organizations, have received first division ratings and outstanding performer honors at solo & ensemble contests, have earned admission to respected summer music festivals including Interlochen Arts Camp, Tanglewood Music Festival, and Buffet Crampon Summer Clarinet Academy, and have been awarded scholarships to some of the most prestigious college music programs in the country including Northwestern University, Rice University, Vanderbilt University, the University of Colorado at Boulder, the University of Texas at Austin, and the University of Houston.
A graduate of Rice University’s Shepard School of Music, her principle teachers include David Peck, Thomas LeGrand, and Carol Stinson. She has done additional study with Richard Hawkins, Randall Griffin, and Sidney Forrest.
Carrie has been involved with the Texas Music Educators Association for over twenty years and served as the 2019-2020 TMEA All-State etude selector for the soprano clarinet.
Currently Carrie teaches in the Conroe Independent School District. Campuses include Oakridge High School, Grand Oaks High School, The Woodlands College Park High School, York Junior High School, and Clark Intermediate.
When Carrie is not teaching or performing, her interests include fitness training, teaching indoor cycle classes, working with her personal training clients, and traveling.
