An Orchestra Teachers Guide to Finding, Buying, and Maintaining String Instruments

Clinic Synopsis:

We will have prepared videos showing common sense repairs that will help teachers learn do classroom repairs to keep their instruments in service with minimal loss of downtime and cost. Also smart choices in instrument ordering to maximize longevity and minimize repairs.

Bill Lee - Biographical Information

Bill Lee began in the violin business at age fourteen, learning basic instrument repair from a family friend, Manfred Reinl of William Lewis & Sons in Chicago, IL.

In 1974, after moving to New York, Bill worked with Erwin Hertel and later managed the workshop at Andrew Schroetter & Company. In 1976, Bill and Howard Core joined forces and began Howard Core & Company.

William Harris Lee & Co., Inc. was born in 1978 in Chicago, IL, as a wholesale distributor of orchestral stringed instruments, bows, cases, and parts. When Bill found he could not get the quality of instruments he wanted to supply, he decided that violin making would be in his future.

Bill Lee has continued to oversee his workshop for over 45 years. Handcrafted by such award-winning makers as Bronek Cison, Gary Garavaglia, Stanley Kiernoziak, Thanh Kim, Mietek Rusnak, Vanna So, Jacek Zadlo, Tetsuo Matsuda, and Will Whedbee, William Harris Lee instruments are played around the globe.
