Meet Wilker Augusto

Wilker Augusto, born in João Pessoa, Brazil, launched his music career by participating in marching bands. Recognizing his passion for music, he attended the UFPB (Federal University of Paraíba) where he completed his Bachelor of Music in French Horn Performance receiving the prestigious Laurel of Academic Excellence Award. While in Brazil, he attended national and international music festivals for French Horn, Orchestral Conducting, and Band Conducting. Wilker Augusto has served as Band Director for several marching bands, of which many have won awards such as “Best Band” and he himself winning “Best Conductor”. In 2012, Wilker Augusto was the recipient of the “Young Orchestral Conductor Competition” award at the International Music Festival Eleazar de Carvalho in Brazil. Wilker Augusto moved to the U.S. in 2016 to complete an Artist Certificate in French Horn Performance at Azusa Pacific University with the renowned professor James Thatcher and in 2018 the Master’s Degree in Instrumental Conducting with an Emphasis in Winds under the tutelage of Dr. John Burdett. Currently, Wilker is pursuing his Doctoral in Musical Arts in Wind Conducting at the University of Memphis under the tutelage of Dr. Albert Nguyen.
