Performer Bio Synopsis

The Leander High School Wind Ensemble, from Leander, TX is one of four performing concert ensembles within the Leander High School Band Program. The Leander Wind Ensemble has received consistent division one ratings at the UIL Concert and Sight Reading Assessment, and previously performed at the Western International Band Clinic in Seattle, WA. The Leander High School Band program has an enrollment of 250 members, comprised of four concert ensembles, a jazz ensemble, IB/AP Music courses, percussion ensemble classes, the 2018 WGI World Championship Color Guard, and their nationally recognized marching band. The Leander Marching Band was recently named the 2-time BOA 3A National Champions, receiving 5th place in finals in 2019 and 6th in 2016. They are a consistent UIL State Finalist, the 2015 BOA Austin Regional Champion, and regular San Antonio Regional Finalist. The students of the program are eagerly involved in multiple leadership opportunities, as well as being competitive in the TMEA Region, Area, and All-State process. The program sits on an incredibly diverse campus, supported by the Leander and Cedar Park communities since 1981, acting as the flagship high school for Leander ISD. The band program is supported by its feeder middle schools, Leander Middle School and Running Brushy Middle School, as well as transfers from around the district with participation in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program. The Leander Band program prides itself on creating a balanced and achievable musical experience within its organization, which fosters growth in student achievement and maturity, as well as an expectation of equality and inclusion at all levels from the staff, the students, and the parents.

Conductor's Bio

Robert Selaiden is in his 13th year at Leander High School and his 6th year as head director of the program. In that time the Leander Band has become one of the preeminent programs in the country, most recently being named a bronze medalist at the UIL 5A State Marching Contest, a finalist at the 6A State Marching contest (earning 5th place and 7th place), named the 2-time 3A BOA National Champions (receiving 6th in 2016 and 5th in 2019), received the BOA Austin Regional Championship in 2015, and now most recently receiving the honor to perform at the Midwest Clinic in 2021. Before coming to Leander High School, Mr. Selaiden attended The University of Texas where he received his Bachelor's degree in Music Studies and Human Development, studied saxophone under Harvey Pittel, and served as Drum Major of The University of Texas Longhorn Band. During each summer, Mr. Selaiden has been active as a facilitator for the SASi Drum Major and Leadership Camps for the last ten years and remains active as a clinician, music arranger, and composer for programs around the country.
