The all-day event features:
Valuable leadership training: Giving students a taste of what it’s like to lead a group of musicians, our special seminars are led by Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser, a well-known author, musician and former band director with a dedication to training the next generation of music educators. The sessions equip attendees with leadership and life strategies as they learn from Dr. Tim and collaborate with other students.
Tons of exhibits: Students will feel like a kid in a candy store as they step into The Midwest Clinic’s expansive exhibit hall, showcasing the latest tools, techniques, materials and trends in music education. They can visit with instrument manufacturers, try out instruments and pick up handouts from their favorite booths.
Informative lectures from music industry leaders: From Grammy award-winning artists to experienced music professors from around the country, high-profile speakers are thoughtfully chosen each year to lead special sessions catering to ambitious high school students. Past topics covered include “So You Want to Be a Music Major?” and “How to Have a Successful College Audition.”
Inspiring live performances: Bringing in the finest instrumental ensembles from around the globe, the clinic provides the opportunity to hear performances by world-renowned groups. Past performers have included the U.S. Army Band and Wynton Marsalis.
Invaluable mentoring from college students: Each year, college students return to this event to invest their time in high school students by serving as mentors. Connecting with them is a great way to learn about the college application process and what classes are really like for music majors in a degree seeking program.
College Night
Starting at 5:30 p.m., College Night is the perfect opportunity to visit with representatives from top universities and military branch music programs from across the country. Bring questions about auditions, classes, college life and requirements and have them answered by the experts. The evening event is free and open to the public.
