Meet Alec Rodriguez

Alec Rodriguez is a doctoral candidate in Wind Band Conducting at the University of Texas at Austin, where he serves as a Graduate Teaching Assistant with the university band program, studying with Professor Jerry Junkin. Prior to beginning his doctoral studies, he completed a Master of Music in Conducting at California State University, Fresno, where he studied with Dr. Gary P. Gilroy and Steven McKeithen and served as a Graduate Assistant with the athletic and band programs. Rodriguez previously taught in California public schools, most recently as Associate Director of Instrumental Music at Clovis High School. There, he conducted concert ensembles, taught marching band and percussion, and contributed extensively to the administration and daily operations of a comprehensive music program. An active educator and presenter, Rodriguez has shared his work at the California All-State Music Educators Conference, with a focus on strengthening intermediate-level ensembles and cultivating positive, student-centered program culture. His teaching is grounded in a philosophy that prioritizes musical expression, high standards of excellence, and the development of each student’s individual voice. Alec's professional interests include rehearsal pedagogy, ensemble culture, and inclusive programming, and he is committed to contributing to the future of the wind band profession through teaching and mentorship.
