2018 Reynolds Conducting Institute Fellow - Shiree Williams

  • Mr. Williams is in his third year as a music educator and first year as Director of Bands at Faubion Middle School in McKinney, Texas. Formerly, he was an Associate Director of Bands at McKinney High School for two years, where he conducted the Concert Band and Jazz Band. A native of Waycross, GA, Mr. Williams holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree cum laude from Valdosta State University, and a Master of Music in Conducting (Wind Emphasis) degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music where he was the conducting student of Glenn Price, with additional mentoring from Angela Holt.

    Upon Mr. Williams notice to be an effective educator and conductor at Valdosta State University and the University of Cincinnati, Mr. Williams received the opportunity to teach and conduct in many settings. He is a frequent guest clinician of concert and marching bands, and has guest conducted various middle school, high school, collegiate, and professional ensembles.

    In Mr. Williams’s pursuit to learn more about his craft, he has attended several conducting symposia including: The United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own” Conductor’s Workshop, The University of Texas Art of Band Conducting and Rehearsing Workshop, Northwestern University Conducting and Wind Symposium, and the University of Oregon Conducting Institute; and has worked with notable conducting pedagogues such as Dr. Mallory Thompson, Dr. Mark Scatterday, Dr. Shawn Vondran, Dr. Rodney Dorsey, Professor Craig Kirchhoff, Professor Richard Floyd, Professor Jerry Junkin, Professor Donald Schleicher, Professor H. Robert Reynolds and Colonel Timothy Holtan.

    Some of Mr. Williams’s professional organizations include: Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated, Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity, the National Band Association, College Band Directors National Association, World Association of Bands and Wind Ensembles, Texas Music Educators Association, and the National Association for Music Educators.
