Performer Bio Synopsis

The Farmington Junior High Jazz Ensemble is made up of 7-9 grade students. The jazz ensemble is not able to rehearse during regular school hours. Instead the band rehearses at 7:00 am every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning. Students do receive credit and a grade for participation in the ensemble. In order to allow more students the opportunity to participate parts are doubled for school concerts. When the band performs at festivals, conventions, or competitions, only the varsity members perform. The Jazz Ensemble has received Superior ratings and critical acclaim at all festivals and competitions it has participated in. Some of the more recent accomplishments include Superior ratings at the first ever Utah, State Jazz Festival. Feature performances at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival by both the Varsity and Non Varsity band.

Conductor's Bio

Heath Wolf is the Director of Bands at Farmington Junior High, located in Farmington Utah. Mr. Wolf teaches nearly 400 students daily in the Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Beginning Band, Jazz Ensemble, Advanced Percussion Ensemble, and Beginning Percussion Ensemble. Ensembles under Mr. Wolf’s direction have consistently earned superior ratings at local, state, national, and international sponsored festivals and competitions. Some of his ensembles’ more recent awards include featured performances at the Midwest Clinic, the Music for All National Concert Band Festival, the Utah Music Educators annual convention, the Sandy Feldstein National Percussion Festival, and the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival. The Farmington Junior High Band program was awarded the Sudler Cup from the John Philip Sousa Foundation and is also a recipient of the National Band Association’s Blue Ribbon Award. Mr. Wolf has been honored with the following awards during his career. The Utah Music Educators Outstanding Junior High Teacher, three Superior Accomplishment Awards by the Utah Music Educators Association, the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Utah, the Young Alumni Award from the University of Utah, was named one of Fifty Directors That Make a Difference by School Band and Orchestra magazine, five Certificates of Achievement by the National Band Association, named to the Davis School District Hall of Fame, a Davis School District Excel Award, a Huntsman Excellence in Education Award, a Sorenson Legacy Award, a KSL Teacher Feature, a KSL Television High Five Award, Murray School District Teacher of the Year, and has been listed in Who’s Who Among American Teachers. As a performer, Mr. Wolf enjoys an active schedule as a freelance percussionist and as a member of the Ballet West Orchestra. He is an active adjudicator and clinician throughout the Intermountain West and has written articles for the Percussive Arts Society, the Utah Music Educators Association, and School Band and Orchestra magazine. As a composer Mr. Wolf is published with Rowloff/Drop6 Media Publications. Mr. Wolf is a member of the Percussive Arts Society, the Utah Music Educators Association, the National Band Association, the Utah Band Masters Association, the Jazz Educators Network, and the American Federation of Musicians, local 104. He is a past President of the Utah Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society, and a past Vice President of the Utah Music Educators Association. Mr. Wolf received both his Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music degrees from the University of Utah.
