Performer Bio Synopsis

The Clayton Chamber Ensemble, new to the District in 2013, is comprised of exceptional elementary and middle school students from the School District of Clayton, Missouri. Approximately 50% of the students began their musical endeavor in the District's 4th grade Suzuki program, and the remaining students came to the string program with previous experience. The focus of this group is to offer a chamber music experience, free of the presence of a conductor. the Chamber Ensemble is an after school program that meets once weekly for two hours. Currently, years of experience range from one to six years.

Conductor's Bio

Dr. Jan Davis began her teacher training at the Southern Illinois University String Preparatory Program under the direction of John Kendall. Davis received a B.A. in Music Education from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville (SIU-E), a M.A. in Educational Administration from SIU-E, a Doctorate of Education from St. Louis University, and a M.A. in Counseling from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Over the course of her thirty-five years as a Suzuki string specialist, Davis’ orchestras have made eight appearances at the Missouri Music Educators State Conference, and have also been chosen to perform at the 2002 Suzuki Association of the Americas National Conference and the 2006 American String Teachers National Conference. This performance will celebrate Davis' seventh performance at the Midwest Clinic. Currently, Davis is teaching at three elementary schools in Clayton, Missouri since joining the district in 2007. Awards presented to Davis include the 1992 St. Louis Suburban Music Educator Award of Merit; the 1993 Missouri American String Teachers School Educator Award; the Elizabeth A.H. Green School Educator Award presented at the 2002 American String Teachers Association National Conference; and the 2005 St. Louis Art Educator of the Year presented by the Arts and Education Council of St. Louis.
