Performer Bio Synopsis

Berkner High School is one of four high schools in the Richardson Independent School District, a suburb of Dallas, Texas. With the invitation to perform at the 73rd Annual Midwest Clinic, the Berkner Band will make its fourth appearance at Midwest. The Richardson ISD has a rich tradition of excellence in the fine arts with 17 Midwest performances, the first of which took place in 1964 with the Richardson High School Band under the baton of Joseph L. Frank. Each of the four high schools—Richardson, Lake Highlands, Pearce, and Berkner—have represented RISD at the Midwest Clinic. Now, fifty-five years later, the Berkner High School Symphonic Band I, conducted by Jason Schayot, will continue this tradition. The band program at Berkner includes five concert bands, a varsity marching band, a junior varsity marching band, jazz band, percussion ensemble, varsity and junior varsity drum lines, two colorguard classes, winterguard, and AP Music Theory, all of which are a part of the curricular offerings at Berkner High School. Completing a comprehensive music program, Berkner is home to a variety of choral ensembles, a string orchestra, and two fully instrumented symphony orchestras. In 2016, the Berkner High School Symphony Orchestra performed at the 70th annual Midwest Clinic under the direction of Craig Needham and Jason Schayot.
