Summit High School Wind Symphony

  • Summit High School opened in 2002 and is located in Mansfield ISD, just south of Dallas/Fort Worth. SHS has 2,118 students grades 9-12. 52% are economically disadvantaged, making Summit a high-achieving Title I school. With 210 students in band, we offer 3 band classes based on ability that meet for 90 minutes each day. We also offer marching band, musical orchestra, jazz band, percussion ensembles, and colorguard as after school activities. Our kids start band in 6th grade in homogeneous classes at Cross Timbers IS. We work closely with CTIS and Howard MS directors to coordinate a vertically-aligned curriculum. This has resulted in an enrollment of 600+ kids in band 6-12! Our goal is to have a well-rounded curriculum that utilizes music to develop life-long learners by teaching work ethic, teamwork, and artistic appreciation. All three of the Summit concert bands consistently earn “Sweepstakes Awards” at the Texas UIL Concert and Sight-reading Evaluation each year. The Wind Symphony has earned “Best in Class” and “Grand Champion” distinctions at festivals throughout the country. This is the first time the Summit Wind Symphony has been invited to perform at The Midwest Clinic. We are incredibly humbled and excited by this opportunity!
