Performer Bio Synopsis

Monta Vista High School is located in Cupertino, California at the heart of Silicon Valley. Founded in 1969, Monta Vista is part of the Fremont Union High School District along with Lynbrook, Homestead, Cupertino, and Fremont High Schools. Students primarily come to Monta Vista from one of two middle schools in the Cupertino Union School District: Kennedy Middle School or Lawson Middle School. The Monta Vista music department is led by John Gilchrist (instrumental music) and Amy Young (vocal music). The department is host to three bands, two orchestras, and four choirs. Monta Vista provides access to a variety of music extracurriculars including full orchestra, jazz band, marching band, and a robust winter guard and winter percussion program. The students of the Monta Vista Chamber Orchestra are thrilled to participate in their debut performance at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic.

Conductor's Bio

Born and raised in Pacifica, California John Gilchrist is a passionate music educator and performer with deep roots in the San Francisco Bay Area. John serves as the Director of Instrumental Music at Monta Vista High School in Cupertino, CA. In his roughly four years in education, John has taught students of all ages from the 4th grade through high school. During his time at Monta Vista, John has guest conducted at the California All State Conference, as well as the Duke’s Hall of the Royal Academy of Music in London, and the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. Most of all, John is deeply honored to conduct alongside his Chamber Orchestra at the 76th annual Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic.
