Performer Bio Synopsis

The Buchholz High School Wind Symphony is the premier concert ensemble of the band program and has earned a reputation as one of the finest symphonic organizations in Florida. This ensemble has been highly praised for "outstanding musicianship, passion, intensity, sensitivity" and is known for its “maturity of sound and stunning clarity.” The Wind Symphony has received the Florida Bandmasters Association's Otto J. Kraushaar Award, the highest award given in Florida for a perfect record of straight Superior ratings at all district and state assessments, for the last 16 consecutive years. The Buchholz Wind Symphony has earned several prestigious performance invitations including the Midwest Clinic (2002, 2009 and 2014), ABA National Convention (2014), CBDNA/NBA Southern Division Conference (2002 and 2014), FMEA State Conference (2014), National Concert Band Festival (2012), and the New York Wind Band Festival at Carnegie Hall (2009). The band received the Sudler Flag of Honor in 2003 and has earned National Wind Band Honors recognition every year since the award's inception in 2006.

Conductor's Bio

Alexander Kaminsky holds degrees from the University of Florida and Indiana University, and is active as an adjudicator and guest conductor/clinician throughout the southeastern United States. Bands under his direction consistently earn Superior ratings at all levels of evaluation. In addition to earning Superior ratings at the State Concert Band Assessment for the last 18 consecutive years, Kaminsky’s bands have been selected to perform at several prestigious state and national festivals and conferences including the Midwest Clinic (2005, 2009 and 2014), American Bandmasters Association National Convention (2014), CBDNA/NBA Southern Division Conference (2004 and 2014), FMEA State Conference (2014), National Concert Band Festival (2002 and 2012), and the National Wind Band Festival at Carnegie Hall (2009). Marching bands under Kaminsky’s direction consistently place in the Florida Marching Band State Championship Finals, winning Grand Champion awards at many FMBC Regionals and, most recently, two consecutive FMBC Class 4A State Championships (2013 and 2014). Mr. Kaminsky is a seven-time recipient of the National Band Association’s Citation of Excellence and has been recognized with numerous individual achievement awards for education including the Florida Bandmasters Association's Oliver Hobbs Award, National Honor Roll's Outstanding American Teacher, Nobel Educator of Distinction, Teacher of the Year, and is listed in Who's Who Among America's Teachers. Kaminsky has been featured in several periodicals including “The Instrumentalist” and “School Band & Orchestra Magazine.” Mr. Kaminsky is an elected member of the prestigious American Bandmasters Association and the American School Band Directors' Association and is a National Board Certified Teacher. His professional affiliations include the National Band Association, National Association for Music Education, Florida Music Educators' Association, Florida Bandmasters Association, Phi Mu Alpha and Kappa Kappa Psi. In addition to his music education activities, Mr. Kaminsky is a deacon and Sunday School teacher at Westside Baptist Church where his family is actively involved in ministry.
