Performer Bio Synopsis

The Flower Mound Wind Symphony is the top performing concert ensemble at Flower Mound High School. The group is comprised of the most talented wind and percussion musicians in grades 9-12. They have consistently been awarded the UIL Sweepstakes award for concert and sight-reading. Most recently the Wind Symphony was named a National Winner in the Foundation for Music Education Mark of Excellence Competition. In 2014, they were named a Texas Honor Band Finalist and placed 4th in the state. The Flower Mound Marching Band is also a winner of the Texas UIL Sweepstakes Award in Marching. They are a consistent finalist in many Bands of America regional and super regional championships. In the fall of 2014, Flower Mound attended the Bands of America Grand National Championships in Indianapolis, IN where they placed 6th amongst a competitive field of marching bands. The marching band has also been a finalist at the Texas State Marching Band Contest. Students in the Flower Mound Band program participate in the Texas All State process each year. Last year 12 students from the Wind Symphony were selected as Texas All State Musicians. Students in all 4 concert bands participate in chamber ensembles and prepare solo literature several times throughout the school year. The Flower Mound Band is fortunate to have incredible professional musicians who teach the students privately as well as provide masterclasses to each section throughout the year.

Conductor's Bio

Brent Biskup has been the Director of Bands at Flower Mound High School since 2012. Previous to his appointment at Flower Mound, he was the band director at Arvada West High School in Colorado. His tenure in Texas began at Lewisville High School in 2004. Mr. Biskup grew up in Denver, Colorado where he began playing the trumpet in the 5th grade. Following in the footsteps of both parents, he chose to pursue a degree in music education. He attended the University of Colorado at Boulder where he studied trumpet with Terry Sawchuck and conducting with Allan McMurry. His interest in marching band led him to Drum Corps International and in 1998 he marched soprano with The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps. In 2004, Mr. Biskup completed coursework at Southern Oregon University to receive a Master’s Degree in Music Education. Under his direction, the bands at Flower Mound High School have consistently been awarded the UIL Sweepstakes award both in Marching Band and Concert Band. The Flower Mound High School Marching Band has been named a finalist in the Bands of America Texas regional and super regional competitions. In the fall of 2014, Flower Mound attended the Bands of America Grand National Championships in Indianapolis, IN where they placed 6th amongst a competitive field of marching bands. In the spring of 2015, the Flower Mound Wind Symphony was invited to perform at the 69th Annual Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic. Mr. Biskup is an active clinician and adjudicator in the state of Texas. His professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association. Jana Harvey was named Associate Director of Bands at Flower Mound High School in June of 2012. Prior to her appointment at Flower Mound, Ms. Harvey served as the Associate Director of Bands at Plano East Senior High and Director of Bands at Clark High School, both located in Plano, TX. Bands under her direction have consistently been awarded the "Sweepstakes Award" for Superior Ratings in the University Interscholastic League Marching, Concert and Sight Reading Competitions and been named "Best in Class" at nationally adjudicated festivals throughout the United States. The Flower Mound Wind Symphony was named a finalist in the Class 5A Honor Band competition by the Texas Music Educators Association in 2014 and was selected as a "National Winner" by the National Wind Band Honors Project in 2013. Most recently, the Flower Mound wind Symphony was invited to perform at the 69th Annual Midwest Clinic. In 2004, Ms. Harvey was named as Clark High School's "Teacher of the Year" and honored by the PTA with the life membership award. In 2005, Ms. Harvey was selected for induction into the American School Band Directors Association, which honors outstanding band directors in the United States. Her professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, Tau Beta Sigma and Phi Beta Mu International Band Fraternity. Ms. Harvey maintains an active schedule as a clinician and adjudicator. She holds the Bachelor of Music Education degree from Texas Tech University.
