Performer Bio Synopsis
Caliente, a nationally acclaimed ensemble, is the recipient of the prestigious DownBeat Award and the Houston Press Best Latin Band Award. As the premier repertoire ensemble of Diaz Music Institute, Caliente is the only youth group to ever receive the Houston Press Award. Under the leadership of Grammy-Nominated Music Educator Top 10 Finalist José Antonio Díaz, the group has shared the stage with some of the most celebrated artists in the music industry, including Ignacio Berroa, Jane Bunnett, Ndugu Chancler, Pete Escovedo, Tia Fuller, Oscar Hernández, Hubert Laws, Eddie Palmieri, Johnny Pacheco, Danilo Pérez, David Sánchez, Poncho Sánchez, Tony Succar, Dave Valentín, Néstor Torres, Jon Faddis, Brian Lynch, Miguel Zenón, and many more.
Caliente has performed at renowned music conferences and festivals, including the Midwest Clinic in Chicago, the Jazz Education Network Conference, the Oregon Music Educators Association Conference, the Music Educators National Conference, the Texas Bandmasters Association, the Texas Music Educators Association, the Texas Salsa Congress, and the Dallas Music Symposium. Additionally, the ensemble has captivated audiences at the Chocolate Bayou Festival, the Bayou City Arts Festival, Día de la Hispanidad, The Red Cat Jazz Festival, and numerous other high-profile concerts and events.
