Performer Bio Synopsis

The Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts offers concentrations in communications, dance, music, theatre and visual arts, with admission decided only by an applicant’s talent and only through an audition process. Graduates are consistently accepted at the top colleges and universities. Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts was founded in 1989 as the premiere arts high school in the School District of Palm Beach County, the nation's eleventh largest school district, which serves a county geographically larger than Rhode Island or Delaware. Located on the historic Central Schools campus in the heart of downtown West Palm Beach, this Choice Program school accepts students from all public and private middle and high schools in the county based upon a competitive audition process. With a current enrollment of 1,400 students, the Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts offers its students intensive study within their art area and a rigorous college preparatory academic curriculum. The innovative program has led to the school receiving a multitude of awards and recognitions on all levels, local to international. The DSOA Band was founded by Director Randy Sonntag, who is a member of the Florida Bandmasters' Association Hall of Fame. Following Mr. Sonntag, the band program continued to grow under the tremendous leadership of Wayne A. Miller. Mr. Miller retired in 2010, and Mr. Evan Rogovin was hired to be the school's third band director in the program's history. The DSOA band curriculum consists of two Jazz Ensembles, two Concert Bands, multiple chamber, percussion ensemble & Jazz combo courses. DSOA Ensembles have been named Savannah Swing Central Champions, Essentially Ellington Finalists, and have performed at the Music For All National Concert Band Festival, the CBDNA Southern Division Conference and have been featured at the Florida Music Educators Association All-State Clinic & Conference. Supported by The School of the Arts Foundation Incorporated, students are able to study privately and in small sections with some of the finest musicians in the south Florida music community.
