Performer Bio Synopsis

The Timber Creek High School Saxophone Ensemble is from Keller, TX. The group was initially established by our saxophone private lesson teacher, Dr. Scott Campbell. Included are saxophonists from all four bands. The ensemble has performed at campus concerts, local events, and the Texas Music Educators Association conference as an exhibition group. The Timber Creek High School Saxophone Ensemble was fostered through the efforts of Dr. Campbell. He was the primary teacher for the Timber Creek saxophone cluster. After establishing the ensemble's roots, Dr. Campbell accepted a position with Conn-Selmer Inc. as their primary Woodwinds Category Manager. Assistant Band Director, Daniel Malacon and José Barrientos are now the primary leaders for the ensemble.

Conductor's Bio

Daniel Malacon, born and raised in Katy, TX, is in his third year at Timber Creek High School. Daniel holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from Baylor University with an emphasis in clarinet studies. Shortly after graduating, he returned to Baylor to complete his Master’s degree in Wind Band Conducting under the guidance of Dr. Eric Wilson. While at Baylor, Daniel focused heavily on performing. As a member of the Baylor Wind Ensemble and the Baylor Symphony Orchestra, he has performed at the Texas Music Educators Association Conference and the College Band Directors National Association Conference, as well in local campus concerts. Additionally, he was assistant-principal clarinet in the Waco Symphony Orchestra during his undergraduate studies. Daniel has made appearances with the Austin Civic Orchestra and the Corpus Christi Symphony. In the summer of 2013, Daniel was a finalist for the International Clarinet Association’s Solo Orchestral Excerpts Competition in Assisi, Italy. There, he was awarded 2nd place out of the six finalists from around the world. While clarinet is his primary field of emphasis, Daniel is also proficient in saxophone having studied with Dr. Michael Jacobson while studying Conducting.
