Performer Bio Synopsis

David Lee “Tex” Hill Middle School opened in 2014 and is the newest middle school in the North East Independent School District in San Antonio, Texas. Tex Hill was a fighter pilot and combat ace who served with the legendary American Volunteer Group better known as the Flying Tigers. Tex believed that leadership and character were intertwined. His most famous quote was “Work hard, stick to your values, and trust God.” Just as Tex Hill instilled values and leadership in his students, our campus strives to prepare critical thinkers, lifelong learners, and fearless leaders for a changing world. The Tex Hill Middle School Band program has three Advanced Bands comprised of seventh and eighth grade students. These ensembles are ability based groups. The music curriculum for the advanced ensembles includes all genres of music. We participate in UIL, contests, and festivals throughout the state. The Tex Hill Band also loves to participate in community and school events and joint events with our High School feeder-Claudia Taylor Johnson High School. In addition to the three advanced bands, we have nine homogeneous beginner classes. These classes do perform together for concerts throughout the year. Our Band program is fortunate to have the amazing support of our parents, school, and community. The Tex Hill Honors Band was a TMEA State Honor Band Finalist in 2015, its inaugural year, as well as a TMEA Area Honor Band Finalist in 2017 and 2019. The Tex Hill Honors Band has also been awarded a National Winner in the Mark of Excellence National Competition. In addition, the Honors Band was chosen in 2017 and 2019 to perform at the Tobin Center as part of the YOSA Invitational Contest. Since the school opened in 2014, the Honors Band has been awarded the Overall Outstanding Middle School Band in the Director’s Choice Contests in Dallas, Corpus, and Houston. Tex Hill was also a demonstration group for the Texas Bandmasters Association in 2018. We value well-rounded individuals and our students are involved in multiple activities including choir, theater, dance, and many sports. It is our desire to instill a lifelong love of music for all of our students as well as place to belong, a home away from home.
