Performer Bio Synopsis

The band program at Cedar Park Middle School serves more than 380 students, with seventh and eighth graders enrolled in one of three performing bands, and sixth grade beginning band classes in a homogeneous setting. Since the school opened in 1995, the Cedar Park Middle School bands have been consistent UIL Sweepstakes winners and have been well-represented at Solo and Ensemble contest, TMEA All-Region Band and Region Orchestra auditions. Under the direction of Britni Hummel, Brandon Morrison, Michelle Kim and Roland Chavez the Cedar Park Middle School bands have earned numerous honors and awards at festivals in Texas. In 2007, 2011, and 2019 the CPMS Band Program was invited to perform at The Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, and in 2008 the program was awarded the coveted John Philip Sousa Foundation Sudler Silver Cup Award. In 2015, the Texas Bandmasters Association awarded the Outstanding Band Program Award to the Cedar Park MS Band Program. From 2008-2024, the program at CPMS earned distinction as a National Wind Band Honors Class AA winner. In 2019 and 2023 the CPMS Symphonic Band was also named a CCC TMEA Honor Band Finalist and most recently placed as First Runner Up in the 2023 Finals. To improve their individual skills and musicianship, all students in the CPMS Band program attend weekly section rehearsals, and many students take advantage of the opportunity for private lessons through the LISD Private Lesson Program. In addition to their involvement in band activities, CPMS Band students are also active in other activities, including National Junior Honor Society, Student Council, Leadership, Yearbook/Journalism, Athletics, Art, Cheerleading, Dance Team, Theatre and many more. Through the dedicated work of many individuals, the program has built a tradition of success that has flourished within the school and in the community.

Britni Hummel is the Director of Bands at Cedar Park Middle School in Leander ISD located in Cedar Park, Texas, and currently in her fourteenth year of teaching. Mrs. Hummel began her teaching career at Cedar Park Middle School as the primary conductor of Concert Winds, before becoming the Director of Bands in 2017. During her time at Cedar Park Middle School her bands have received consistent UIL Sweepstakes and Best in Class Honors at festivals. She guest conducted the Cedar Park Middle School Saxophone Ensemble at their Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic’s performance in 2011. The Cedar Park Middle School Band was also recognized as the Texas Bandmasters Association’s Exemplary Band Program in 2015. In addition, Cedar Park Middle School’s Symphonic Band has been a consistent National Wind Band Honors Mark of Excellence winner since 2008. Most recently, the program at Cedar Park MS was selected to perform at the 2019 Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic and placed second in the 2023 TMEA CCC Honor Band Process. Prior to teaching, Mrs. Hummel received her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. While there, Mrs. Hummel was a member of the Wind Ensemble, serving as principal clarinetist for three years, and also served as drum major of the Bobcat Marching Band, under the direction of Dr. Caroline Beatty. At Texas State, Mrs. Hummel was inducted as a member of Pi Kappa Lambda music honor society, and also received the Presser Foundation Scholarship from the School of Music. The Texas Bandmasters Association selected her as the Malcolm Helm Endowed Scholarship Recipient. She was also chosen to represent the Who’s Who among Colleges and Universities at Texas State. In her final semester, she was nominated for the upper-level Presidential Scholarship before graduating Sum Cum Laude. Mrs. Hummel lives in Leander, Texas with her husband David and her dog Dixie. She enjoys performing with the Cedar Park Winds Community Band, comprised of directors and teachers from the greater Austin Area. She has worked as a director at both the Texas State University and Baylor University Summer Band Camps. Her professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Music Adjudicators Association and the Texas Bandmasters Association. Mrs. Hummel also serves as the Region 32 Middle School Band Treasurer.
