Performer Bio Synopsis

Rockville, Maryland is home to Robert Frost Middle School, one of 40 middle schools in the Montgomery County Public School System (MCPS). With over 160,000 students, the school system is the largest in Maryland and 15th in the United States. Our students proceed to Thomas S. Wootton High School and various magnet programs. Just north of Washington, D.C, this school serves a vast geographical area, spanning portions of Rockville, Potomac, and Gaithersburg. Robert Frost Middle School serves 930 students in grades 6-8. U.S. News & World Report currently ranks RFMS as the #7 Best Middle Schools in Maryland. RFMS celebrates its 68% diversity, comprising 13 % African American, 40% Asian, 10% Hispanic, 30% White, and 7% Multiracial students. The RFMS Science Bowl Team earned seventh place in the National Finals of the US Department of Energy’s 2024 National Science Bowl. With 280 students enrolled in its three bands and three orchestras, RFMS has a rich tradition of providing an exceptional music education. The school has recently had the most students represented in the district honors groups and the Maryland Junior All State Bands and Orchestras. During Cameron's tenure, her ensembles have earned top ratings at district and state adjudications. Robert Frost Band and Orchestras were featured at the Maryland Music Educators Association conferences during the 2023-2024 school year. In October, 2023, this orchestra presented a session led by Mike Kamuf, highlighting 13 newly published works by Alfred Publishing with support from Brian Balmages, Christ Bernatos, and Katie LaBrie. The Advanced Band presented a performance session that featured a program of music written by Maryland Composers that included Brian Balmages, Mark Lortz, and Brian Drake conducting their pieces. Music of Adrian B. Sims and Mike Kamuf rounded out the program. The Advanced Orchestra is the only middle school orchestra performing at the 2025 National Association for Music Education (NAfME) Eastern Division Conference in Hartford, Connecticut. Andrea Cameron is in her ninth year as the Instrumental Music Director at RFMS. She conducts three bands and two of the three string orchestras. Ability grouped ensembles meet daily for 47 minutes. Sectionals are run after school and private lessons are handled by the families, outside of the school program. Mrs. Cameron is asked to host student interns, has directed district honors groups, and serves on regional adjudication panels. Mrs. Cameron serves as the Middle School Representative of the Maryland Band Directors Association (MBDA) and is on the Maryland Orchestra Directors Association’s (MODA) music review panel for inclusion on Maryland’s list. She is the Maryland Classic Youth Orchestra’s (MCYO) Concert Orchestra Conductor. In 2020, the Maryland Music Educators Association honored her with the Outstanding Music Educator Award for Excellence.
