Rockville, Maryland is home to Robert Frost Middle School, one of 40 middle schools in the Montgomery County Public School System (MCPS) and adjoins the north border of Washington, D. C.. With over 160,000 students, the school system is the largest in Maryland and 15th in the United States. Our students proceed to Thomas S. Wootton High School and various magnet programs. Just north of Washington, D.C, this school serves a vast geographical area, spanning portions of Rockville, Potomac, and Gaithersburg. Robert Frost Middle School serves 930 students in grades 6-8. U.S. News & World Report currently ranks RFMS as #7 in the Best Middle Schools in Maryland. RFMS celebrates its 68% diversity, comprising 13 % African American, 40% Asian, 10% Hispanic, 30% White, and 7% Multiracial students. The RFMS Science Bowl Team earned seventh place in the National Finals of the US Department of Energy’s 2024 National Science Bowl. With 280 students enrolled in its three bands and three orchestras, RFMS has a rich tradition of providing an exceptional music education. The school frequently has significant representation in the district honors groups and the Maryland Junior All State Bands and Orchestras. During Cameron's tenure, her ensembles have consistently earned top ratings at district and state adjudications. The RFMS Advanced Band and Advanced Orchestra were each featured at the Maryland Music Educators Association conferences during the 2023-2024 school year. In October, 2023, this orchestra presented a session led by Mike Kamuf, highlighting 13 newly published works by Alfred Publishing with support from Brian Balmages, Christ Bernatos, and Katie LaBrie. The Band presented a performance session that featured a program of music written by Maryland Composers that included Brian Balmages, Mark Lortz, and Brian Drake conducting their pieces. Music of Adrian B. Sims and Mike Kamuf rounded out the program. The Advanced Orchestra performed at the 2025 National Association for Music Education (NAfME) Eastern Division Conference in Hartford, Connecticut.

Andrea Cameron is a 36 year veteran of Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), where she currently serves as the Band and Orchestra Director at Robert Frost Middle School in Rockville, MD. In her nine years at Frost, the Instrumental Music Department has become one of the most represented in district and state honors ensembles. Under her leadership, Mrs. Cameron has established Frost as one of Maryland's premier music programs. While teaching at the elementary level, she co-wrote and implemented the training of the first elementary instrumental music curriculum for MCPS and has since been a writer for the middle school band and orchestra curricula. She has also enjoyed assisting new teachers as a facilitator at the New Educator’s Orientation program. Early in her career, Mrs. Cameron has served as the Maryland Music Educators Association (MMEA) Member at Large and the MMEA Membership Chair. In 2022, Mrs. Cameron was the Equipment Manager for the National Association of Music Educators (NAfME) National Conference and the All-National Honors Ensembles held near Washington D.C.. Mrs. Cameron mentors student interns, directs district honors groups, and serves on regional adjudication panels for small and large ensembles. She also serves as the Middle School Representative for the Maryland Band Directors Association (MBDA) and is on the Maryland Orchestra Directors Association’s (MODA) review panel for inclusion of music on Maryland’s list. She is the Maryland Classic Youth Orchestra’s (MCYO) Concert Orchestra Conductor, the organization’s youngest full orchestra. In 2020, MMEA honored her with the Outstanding Music Educator Award for Excellence. When not at school, she enjoys golfing with her husband Scott, a retired tubist from The United States Army Field Band.
