Performer Bio Synopsis

The Indiana University Trombone Choir is one of the premier collegiate trombone ensembles in the United States. Comprised of trombone majors from all degree levels and all studios at the Jacobs School of Music at IU, the ensemble serves as both a performance group and a laboratory for artistic and technical development, offering students the opportunity to explore the rich and diverse repertoire written for trombone choir. The IUTC rehearses and performs under the direction of Dr. Brittany Lasch. Each semester, members are selected through audition, ensuring a high level of musicianship and commitment. Throughout the academic year, the IUTC presents multiple concerts, both on and off campus. In 2024, the IUTC was invited to make its debut performance at the American Trombone Workshop, hosted by The U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own” in Fort Myer, Virginia. In 2026, the ensemble was invited to perform at the Indiana Music Educators Association Conference and was also named Runner-Up in the International Trombone Association Emory Remington Trombone Choir Competition, the only ensemble from North America to place. In the past three years, the IUTC has commissioned and premiered numerous new works, including pieces by Adrian B. Sims, Emma Cardon-Wake, Frank Gulino, and Christopher Kemp. More than just an ensemble, the Indiana University Trombone Choir serves as a cornerstone of the trombone program at the Jacobs School of Music. It provides students with invaluable experience in collaboration, innovation, and proficiency - skills that prepare them for successful careers as performers, educators, and advocates of the arts.

Conductor's Bio

A winner of the S&R Foundation Washington Award and Astral Artists National Auditions, trombonist Brittany Lasch serves as Associate Professor of Trombone at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. Brittany has appeared as a soloist worldwide with ensembles ranging from the U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own” to the Queens Symphony and the Santa Fe (Argentina) Municipal Band. With playing described as “masterful” (Syracuse Post-Standard), American Record Guide recently hailed Brittany as an "excellent soloist" across a diverse range of repertoire. Brittany has been a featured guest artist at numerous festivals, including the International Trombone Festival, the International Women’s Brass Conference, and the American Trombone Workshop. For six seasons, Brittany was the Principal Trombone of the Detroit Opera Orchestra at the Detroit Opera House. She has performed with orchestras nationwide, including the San Francisco Symphony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Indianapolis Symphony, the St. Louis Symphony, the Detroit Symphony, and the Nashville Symphony. An active presence in the global trombone community, Brittany’s performances in past seasons include Argentina’s Trombonanza, Portugal’s Gravíssimo Festival, as well as appearances in Japan and Korea. As an advocate for new music, Brittany has commissioned and performed several new pieces for the trombone, including acclaimed composer Reena Esmail’s major Sonata for Trombone and Piano, which is featured on her debut album, Dark Horse (available on all streaming platforms). Brittany has previously served on the faculty at the College of Musical Arts at Bowling Green State University and the Boston University Tanglewood Institute. She has also been a featured teacher and performer at summer festivals including the Sewanee Music Festival and the DC Trombone Workshop, and she has presented masterclasses at universities across the country and internationally.
