Performer Bio Synopsis

The Stiles Middle School Band opened in 2012 under the direction of Darcy Potter Williams and Jenna Yee. Over the last three years, the band program has strived to set a pattern of excellence from day one, consistently receiving superior ratings at UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest. The band gives several concerts within the community each year as well as sends smaller student-led ensembles out for community service twice a year. The Stiles MS Band program focuses not only on creating quality music but also quality, well-rounded humans.

Conductor's Bio

Born to parents who met in their beginner trombone class, Darcy Potter Williams is 100% a product of the Texas music system. Her own musical education began in her father's band hall in Harper, Texas where she spent her afternoons learning to play any instrument she could find in the storage closet while waiting to go home. In middle school and high school, she studied flute with Mr. Paige Brooke, a 36-year former flautist with the New York Philharmonic who brought not only his knowledge of flute and musicality to the table but also a treasure trove of stories about playing under Bernstein, Boulez, and Mehta. Darcy received her Bachelor of Music in 2004 from West Texas A&M University where she studied with Gary Garner, Don Lefevre, Russ Teweleit, and Sally Turk. She began her teaching career at Burnet Middle School in Burnet, TX where she taught for 6 years. In 2009, her band won the Texas Outstanding Performance Series. After moving to Deerpark Middle School in Austin, TX, her band was selected to perform at the Western International Band Clinic (WIBC) in 2011. Most recently, Darcy and associate director Jenna Yee opened the newest Leander ISD school Stiles Middle School in 2012. This is their first invitation to perform at the Midwest Clinic, and Ms. Potter Williams, Mrs. Yee, and Mr. Ortega are extremely humbled and excited to bring such an honor to their band program.
