Performer Bio Synopsis
The Bumpus Middle School Symphonic Band from Hoover, Alabama is the top performing ensemble in the Bumpus Band program, which encompasses approximately 250 students performing in a variety of ensembles including Jazz Band, Beginning Band, and two ability-based concert bands (Symphonic Band and Concert Band). Students take Beginning Band in 6th grade in semi-homogeneous classes and then continue as 7th and 8th graders in either the Concert Band or Symphonic Band. Additionally, students may choose to take Jazz Band as their second elective class in addition to their concert band class in 7th and 8th grade. Since their inception in 1999 when the school was founded, the bands at Bumpus have consistently received superior ratings at District Assessment, State Assessment, and the ABA Music Performance Assessment. The Bumpus Bands have also been honored to perform and receive superior ratings at regional and national events such as the Southern Star Music Festival and Music in the Parks Music Festival in Atlanta, GA, the National Festival of the States in Washington, DC, and the National Adjudicators Invitational in Atlanta, GA. The Bumpus Symphonic Band performed at the 2014 AMEA In-Service Conference, the 2014 Music for All National Concert Band Festival in Indianapolis, IN, the 2017 Music for All Southeastern Regional Concert Band Festival at Georgia State University, the 2025 Music for All-Belmont University Regional Wind Band Festival, and the 2026 CBDNA/NBA Southern Division Conference at the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL.

Conductor's Bio
Mr. Josh Lynch is in his 23rd year of teaching and his 20th year as band director at Robert F. Bumpus Middle School. Prior to his tenure at Bumpus, he was the assistant band director at McAdory High School from 2003-2006. During his time at Bumpus, the Bumpus Bands have received superior ratings at District Assessment, State Assessment, and the ABA Music Performance Assessment each year. They have also performed at regional and national events such as the Southern Star Music Festival and the Music in the Parks Music Festival in Atlanta, GA, Festival Disney in Orlando, FL, the National Festival of the States in Washington, DC, the Smoky Mountain Music Festival in Gatlinburg, TN, and the National Adjudicators Invitational in Atlanta, GA. In 2014, Mr. Lynch led the Bumpus Symphonic Band in their first-ever performance at the AMEA In-Service Conference and their first-ever performance at the Music for All National Concert Band Festival in Indianapolis, IN. Mr. Lynch was also the Bumpus Middle School nominee and the middle school nominee from Hoover City Schools for the Jacksonville State University Teacher Hall of Fame in the 2010-2011 academic year. Mr. Lynch led the Bumpus Symphonic Band in their performance at the Music for All Southeastern Regional Concert Band Festival in Atlanta, GA in 2017 and the Music for All Belmont University Regional Wind Band Festival in 2025. The Bumpus Symphonic Band also performed at the 2026 College Band Directors National Association/National Band Association Southern Division Conference at the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL. In 2024, Mr. Lynch was inducted into the Rho Chapter of the Phi Beta Mu International School Bandmaster Fraternity. Mr. Lynch also served as Chairman of the Alabama Bandmasters Association, District IV from 2018-2020, and is a three-time recipient of the National Band Association Citation of Excellence. In December 2026, Mr. Lynch will lead the Bumpus Symphonic Band in their first-ever performance at the Midwest Clinic International Band and Orchestra Conference in Chicago, IL.
