Performer Bio Synopsis
Located in Flower Mound, Texas, Shadow Ridge Middle School serves grades 6-8 and is part of the Lewisville Independent School District, which educates over 47,000 students. Our district is known for offering exceptional academic programs alongside some of the country’s top-performing fine arts programs. Shadow Ridge is one of 15 middle schools in the district, about 30 miles northwest of Dallas.
Under the direction of Mr. Ross Patterson and Ms. Adrienne Schuster, the Shadow Ridge Middle School Band includes over 200 students in grades 6-8. The band program consists of two main performing groups: Honor Winds (our top-performing ensemble) and Symphonic Band (our second performing group). Additionally, our beginning band students are divided into nine separate like-instrument classes. Each band class meets for 45 minutes daily. Shadow Ridge serves as a direct feeder school for Flower Mound High School, whose band program has earned multiple prestigious awards, including two invitations to the Midwest Clinic.
The Honor Winds and Symphonic Band perform each spring at the UIL Concert & Sightreading Evaluations, where they consistently earn superior ratings. Both groups also hold weekly sectionals outside of school hours. Throughout the year, they participate in several formal concerts, and students display their talents at the annual Solo & Ensemble contest, performing solos with live piano accompaniment and in small ensembles.
Within our beginning band, approximately 10-15 eighth grade students each year opt to take a second band class and serve as aides, assisting with the instruction of younger students. This creates valuable leadership opportunities, allowing our eighth graders to build peer-teaching skills and prepare for leadership roles both in high school and beyond.
Additionally, we offer a jazz band program that meets during the school day. The jazz band is divided into two groups: an auditioned ensemble, Jazz Band 1, and a non-auditioned ensemble, Jazz Band 2. These groups perform at various events within our school district and the broader community. The jazz band is inclusive in its approach, welcoming all students who are interested in joining, regardless of their primary instrument.
