The Care and Feeding of the Emerging School Jazz Program: Tips and Takeaways for Sonic Success

Clinic Synopsis:

This clinic will provide participants with multiple take-aways regarding the sonic success of a "second" high school jazz band, or, an emerging school jazz band. Instantly implementable ideas in the areas of curriculum, logistics, and repertoire will be provided. Logistical tips from 20 years experience of teaching an "early bird" class and a repertoire list with 38 guaranteed "home run" literature choices for a second jazz band will be delivered concisely and with great clarity.

Glenn Williams - Biographical Information

Glenn William is Fine Arts Department Chair at Downers Grove South HS in Downers Grove, IL. Mr. Williams teaches Jazz Lab Ensemble, Wind Symphony and Concert Band Brass. Mr. Williams has held similar positions at Forest Hills Central HS in Grand Rapids, MI, and at Highland Park HS in Highland Park, IL. Mr. Williams is on the brass/jazz faculty of the Indiana University Summer Music Clinic, and at Blue Lake International Fine Arts Camp in Twin Lake, MI. Mr. Williams has performed with numerous artists, including The Four Tops, Frank Sinatra, Jr., Michael Brecker, and Kenny Wheeler. Mr. Williams has also performed with community ensembles including the North Shore Concert Band. Mr. Williams now is a member of the music ministry at Glen Ellyn Bible Church in Glen Ellyn, IL, where he also serves as an Elder. Mr. Williams holds degrees from Indiana, Northwestern, & Concordia Universities.
