Real Musical Instrument Repair in the Classroom Setting

Clinic Synopsis:

This clinic will present simple procedures educators can use to resolve repair issues and help prevent issues from occurring in the first place. This is not a “tips for emergency-repair" presentation, but rather, an informative discussion of the common problems educators experience with older or poorly constructed instruments. Educators will gain a better understanding of how to diagnose and make simple repairs and incorporate a preventative maintenance program for their inventory.

Chris Bluemel - Biographical Information

Chris Bluemel is owner of The Instrument Doc, LLC, a musical instrument repair and retail company in Charleston, SC. A former US Army musician, his myriad of professional experience includes band/orchestra instrument repair, performance, wholesale accessory sales, retail sales/management and business ownership. He has also given numerous repair clinics regionally and nationally to music educators, music store reps and professional technicians. He is in his tenth year as instructor of the Villanova University Summer Workshop string repair courses in Pennsylvania. A freelance tuba player, Chris performs regularly with the Crescent Brass Quintet, the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra, the Savannah Philharmonic, the Charleston Symphony Orchestra and the River City Dixieland Jazz Band.He is author of the newly released
