Brassed On: A Guide to Expressive Brass Playing

Clinic Synopsis:

This session will discuss and demonstrate innovative ideas in tone production, intonation, and articulation with the goal of improving the sound of your brass section. Musical expression and imagery will also be explored with an eye towards both individual and group exercises.

Gregory R. Jones - Biographical Information

Dr. Gregory Jones is professor of trumpet and conductor of the Brass Choir at Truman State University (Missouri). He holds degrees from Florida State University, the University of North Texas, and a doctorate in music performance and literature from the Eastman School of Music. He has recorded for National Public Radio and performs often as soloist and as a member of the Truman Brass and Truman Chamber Ensemble. His ensemble experience includes the Eastman Wind Ensemble and the Kansas City Symphony. He appeared with several great artists including Wynton Marsalis, Joshua Bell, and Al Jarreau. Jones was an “Artist-In-Residence” in Greece, as a recipient of a Senior Fulbright Grant from the United States Information Agency, and the Council for International Exchange of Scholars. He is a former Texas band director and remains active as a clinician and guest conductor.
