Economic, Sustainable Gestures: Clear Conducting Technique that Conveys your Aural Picture

Clinic Synopsis:

This session will demonstrate efficient and effective gestures to help develop your conducting technique with clarity and musicality. Discover and engage your unique center and use it to channel your musical intent to and through your players. Learn specific exercises in subdivision, dynamics, and various music styles that you can use to communicate your musical vision and help paint an aural picture for your players.

Paula Holcomb - Biographical Information

Paula Holcomb is director of bands at the State University of New York at Fredonia where she conducts the Wind Ensemble and teaches courses in graduate and undergraduate conducting. Her ensembles have performed at the Lincoln Center and throughout the United States, Canada, China, and Mexico. She is a graduate of Drake University and holds a doctorate from Northwestern University. Holcomb has conducted and presented conducting symposiums in 42 states, South America, Australia, Mexico, Europe, Hong Kong, China, and Canada. She performed as assistant principal horn of the Des Moines Symphony and was past-president of the Iowa Music Educators Association. Holcomb has also served on the WASBE Council, CBNDA Board, and Conductors Guild Board.
