E. Daniel Long retired after a forty-year career directing bands and orchestras in the public schools of Nebraska and Michigan. He serves currently as an adjunct lecturer at the University of Michigan. He is the founding director of the School for Performing Arts-Ann Arbor Youth Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Long has appeared as a conductor/clinician at the Midwest Clinic, Music Educators National Conference (MENC), American String Teachers Association (ASTA), and national, state, and regional conferences. He received the Midwest Clinic Medal of Honor, ASTA Elizabeth A. H. Green School Educator Award and was awarded the Michigan Band and Orchestra Association’s Teacher of the Year, and the Michigan ASTA Teacher of the Year. He holds degrees from Chadron State College (Nebraska) and the University of Colorado. Mr. Long has been an author and member of the editorial board for the Music Educator Journal and the American String Journal, and has also published articles for The Instrumentalist Magazine.
