Make Me a Match: Getting Kids on the Right Instruments from the Beginning

Clinic Synopsis:

Students must be matched to the appropriate instrument (or instruments) if they are to be successful in the long term. The presenter will describe the particular student characteristics that may and may not be suited for a given instrument. She will also present strategies for motivating students toward an instrument they may not initially choose.

Erin Cole - Biographical Information

Erin Cole has been the band director at Tapp Middle School in Cobb County (GA), since 1995. Her band has been featured at the Midwest Clinic and the University of Georgia Middle School Band Festival. She has commissioned several important pieces for band by some of our leading composers. Cole earned her bachelor's degree in music education from the University of Georgia. As a student at the University of Georgia, she played cello, flute, and piccolo in the University Symphony Orchestra, chamber groups, Symphonic and Concert Bands, and the Redcoat Marching Band. She has studied cello with Christopher Rex, David Starkweather, and Alice Williams and has studied flute with Ronald Waln and Martha Lynn Volman. Her professional affiliations include Phi Beta Mu, Sigma Alpha Iota, National Band Association, and the Georgia Music Educators Association.
