Surviving and Excelling in a Small School

Clinic Synopsis:

Teaching band in a small school presents a unique set of challenges. Clinicians will provide practical and proven strategies utilized by three successful small school band directors. Discussions will include managing program logistics, maintaining open lines of communication with administrators, developing parental and community support, and establishing realistically high standards.

George Little - Biographical Information

George Little is the head band director at New Diana High School in Diana, TX. He earned his Bachelors of Music degree from Stephen F. Austin State University in 2002 where he studied with Mr. Fred J. Allen, Dr. Debra Scott, and Dr. Gary Wurtz. His bands consistently earn Texas UIL Sweepstakes Awards, have been two-time UIL Area Marching Contest Finalists, won best in class 2A in the 2011 National Association of Military Marching Bands Marching Contest, won first place in the 2010 Association of Texas Small School Bands Outstanding Performance Series, and were the second runner up for class 2A in the 2012 TMEA Honor Band Competition. Little is a member of TMEA, ATSSB, TBA, TMAA, and NAMMB. He has presented a clinic for the Texas Bandmasters Association and leads his church orchestra at Mobberly Baptist Church in Longview, TX.
